Malayalam actress and internet sensation Priya Prakash Varrier’s viral song ‘Manikya Malaraya Poovi’ from the film ‘Oru Adaar Love’ has landed in more trouble. According to reports, a fresh application has been filed in the Supreme Court objecting to the viral wink sequence in the song, alleging that the act of winking is forbidden in Islam.
Two Hyderabad-based parties have reportedly filed the application. In the application, the petitioners allegedly said ‘objectionable scenes’ had been superimposed with lyrics of the song that was reportedly written in praise of Prophet Mohammed and his wife Khadeeja Beevi.
“The 30-second clip shows a schoolgirl and schoolboy exchanging smiles, eyebrows wiggles and winks from across the way…Winking itself is forbidden in Islam and in a case where the act of winking is superimposed with a sacred song, written in the praise of Prophet Mohammed and his first wife…the same act becomes an act of blasphemy,” the applicants reportedly said.
The petitioners allegedly further said that the picturisation of the song is a deliberate attempt to malign the image of Islam, to outrage religious feelings of the Muslim community.
One of the applicants had reportedly filed a complaint in February as well following which an FIR was registered against the film’s director Omar Lulu in Telangana.
The Supreme Court had stayed all criminal proceedings against Priya Prakash Varrier and Omar Lulu, who were booked for allegedly hurting religious sentiments of Muslims in the song from their upcoming film ‘Oru Adaar Love’.
The Apex Court had said no FIR can be lodged in future in any state against Varrier.
The Raza Academy, on February 16, had penned a letter to Union Information and Broadcasting minister Smriti Irani seeking a ban on the song from her debut movie.
The first song of Malayalam movie ‘Oru Adaar Love’ became viral on social media within few hours of its release because of Varrier’s cute articulations and wink. Since then, the 18-year-old has become the talk of the town.
